The Great Bambino
| |
The remarkable statistics amassed by Babe during his 20 year career earned him the label as the greatest player of all-time. His mythological stature was cemented by his "called shots," in which he would hit home runs shortly after predicting that he would do so. To his fans, he was the "Babe," the "Bambino," the "Sultan of Swat;" he was even described by an author as "God himself." Is this going to far? Well, he may not be god, but if you could classify one baseball player as God, this would be it.
Babe Ruth was not only a Mark McGwire or our time, but he was also a Roger Clemens of our time. No other player has ever been both a dominate pitcher and a longball hitter which is another reason why Babe Ruth is truly, the greatest ever.
